Parents’ involvement in this process is very important. It is necessary to understand what they like and don’t like. This really gives them a chance to sit down and decide what they like to achieve in a photoshoot session with me.
Preference of color shades, the moods – darker tones or lighter tones are discussed. If it is a girl baby, would they like pinks and florals or stay away from it, similarly for boys and blues? Some like to keep it neutral. And of course, if they prefer to leave the whole process up to me, would love that too!
Stylizing setups for newborn and baby sessions involves creating a visually appealing and comfortable environment for the little ones while capturing beautiful photographs. Here are some tips to help you create captivating setups:
Choose a Theme or Color Palette
Decide on a theme or color palette that suits the session. Popular themes include rustic, vintage, minimalist, floral, bohemian, and more. A consistent color palette can tie the setups together and make the photos visually cohesive.
Props and Accessories
Select appropriate props and accessories that complement the chosen theme. Soft blankets, textured fabrics, baskets, crates, buckets, floral arrangements, headbands, hats, and cuddly toys can all enhance the setup.
Comfort
Maintain a comfortable temperature in the room, as newborns are sensitive to changes in temperature. Use a space heater or blankets to keep the baby warm during outfit changes.
Timing
Newborn sessions are best done within the first two weeks of life when babies are sleepier and more easily posed. However, for baby sessions (around 3-6 months), babies are often more alert and responsive, so adjust your setups accordingly.
Patience
Babies can be unpredictable, so be patient and flexible. If a baby is fussy or not cooperating, take breaks as needed and work with their schedule.
Parent and Family Shots
Don’t forget to include shots with parents and family members. These shots are precious and capture the loving connections.
Safety First
The safety and comfort of the baby are paramount. Ensure that any props or setups used are safe and that the baby is always supervised. Avoid using small or sharp objects that could pose a choking hazard.
